Fabulous Sensor4
Hello,
I purchased this microwave for 2 reasons: greater capacity and high power. The good name of sharp also did affect my decision. After about a week of operating it, I do like it.

The best feature is the fact that it has this great sensor which can tell if and when the food is cooked and stop the oven after that. I tried boiling some rice in it, the sensor adjusted the power levels and cooking time and within 15 minutes flat (or less for one cup of uncooked rice + 2 cups of water) the oven beeped to let me know the rice was done. The rice was cooked perfectly.

After that, I used the sensor "reheat" feature to heat some food from the refrigerator and it worked perfectly each time. The food was evenly heated all over, unlike cheaper microwaves which literally blacken some parts of the food whereas other parts remain ice cold.

The oven however has 2 cons, viz. it is loud and its not very user friendly in operation for certain tasks. Eg: You wont be able to simply put in some food and enter the time and hit the start button. There is a pre-ordained sequence of buttons for doing so. Thankfully, the display is pretty informative, so it tells you what buttons to press and when, so you wont have to refer the manual each time.

But because of the advanced sensor feature, you will find yourself using the sensor based cooking feature most of the time and not the typical way of putting in the food and setting the timer. And the sensor really works. So this more than makes up for the other short coming. And, honestly speaking, taking the guesswork out of setting the timer and the power levels is indeed a great feature for a novice cook like me.

Besides all this, the capacity of this oven is really large. I mean really large. 1.6 cubic feet is more than I can ever use really. But its good to know you have it in case you need it. Also the high power wattage ensures that the food is cooked really fast.

To illustrate the point: my smaller GE microwave would take about 30 minutes to cook the same amount of rice that this microwave takes 15 minutes to do. So the power consumption is pretty much the same if you consider the rate of power used over the duration of time.

Overall, I think it is a pretty good and solid Microwave oven. Good features, sturdy construction and fabulous sensor technology. With the $25 off coupon, I paid $115 for it, which I feel is a good price (after comparing similar models at different stores).

My advise: go for it. Period!

High Tech Cooking5
This is an incredible microwave. I was a bit cynical at first, but having used it for over a year now, I've loved it and I can never go back to those smaller microwave ovens. The sensor cook feature is very neat and despite my initial hesitation, I've come to trust it to do the job, be it making rice or popping corn or just about anything imaginable, it works.

Pros:
* Big, powerful, and spacious.
* Fast operation. Will cook in under half the time for a regular microwave oven. No more waiting.
* Sensor cook. Love it.
* Tons of features and cooking options.
* Did I mention I get a lot of compliments from guests. The oven makes the kitchen look alive. Great look.

Cons:
* Slightly noisy but for a 1200 watt microwave oven, that can be expected.
* The control panel looks complicated and needs some getting used to.

Nice for the price, and looks good too4
When I bought this, I thought I'd wait to write a review after exploring all the features. Now that I've used it for a while, I just realized that Sharp has done just the right thing in designing this microwave. And then there are a couple of things that rob one star from the five I'd otherwise give it. So here are the points.

- Looks nice. I don't like to put this as my first plus point, but it is. My kitchen has a lot of steel and black. So does this, and it fits right in. The face is also very simple.

- Good size. My last mwave was tall and about as wide/deep. I don't think I ever needed that much height. This fits under a cabinet on the counter, and I can still put several cups or a casserole-sized dish, and never miss the excess height. What is here is enough for anything.

- Why haven't I used the control panel? Because, most of the time, I am heating something to some comfort level. Hitting Start adds a minute, even if it's on and counting down. Stop stops the microwave, Stop again will clear the older timer setting. Just that simple. That's pretty much 99% of my usage.

- The control panel is hidden, as it should be. For basic usage, it's overkill to have all those buttons. If Start and Stop work for your other appliances, why not the microwave?

- At the $120 price (with the appropriate housewares discount-of-the-month) this oven is a steal even if you're only going to start and stop microwaving.

- The great sensor everyone is raving about, that's an extra benefit. I would use it to bake potatoes or heat a large thing like a casserole, and from what I read it would do a good job.

- The star-stealer stuff: The plastic packaging is so deep into the microwave's open grooves it never really all comes off. There's plastic film sticking out of some parts and I'll never get it off.

- And, the door sounds really clunky for something that looks this fancy. A softer open would be nice. But this has a fairly loud, hollow "GLINKK" when you open the door. A quality latch that opens softly or sounds less hollow and sharp would transform the feel of this oven.

- If your space is limited, you will notice the front door is really long, since it covers the control panel. Fortunately for me it shares the open space that my fridge doors need in order to open, so I have no issue with that.

Perfect for our needs4
This Sharp replaced a 20+ year old 700 watt J. C. Penney/Panasonic convection/microwave oven which was the first kitchen appliance my wife and I bought together. We try to take care of our appliances, read the manuals, and follow the instructions; funny how that's consistently brought us good luck. I've been cooking exclusively on it for the past three weeks while we waited for our countertops in our kitchen rennovation and my Jenn-Aire has been disconnected. The only reason I'm giving the Sharp four stars instead of five is because I can make no real comment on its durability and longevity in three weeks, but its performance to date has been 5-star. I picked the Sharp over similar Panasonics because current production similarly sized and featured Sharps weigh 25 to 30 percent more than Panasonics; they seem more sturdy to me. I've owned several other Sharps for office and cabin use and have had no problems with any of them. After reading other reviews here, we did purchase an extended warranty along with the oven, although we live in an area with fairly stable mains electricity and we don't put stuff in the microwave that tend to wreck microwaves.

The Sharp over the counter micorwave came well packed with all necessary mounting and hook-up accessories. Our cabinet installer was impressed with the mounting hardware, design and instructions. Final mounting was solid, flush and professionally "built-in". I've ordered the accessory bars and hooks for hanging some other kitchen equipment from the bottom of the oven.

There have been significant power and feature improvements in microwaves. This Sharp O.T.C. works perfectly in our corridor kitchen rennovation and effectively gave me one third more useable counter prep space. While there are other microwaves for over the range mounting (incorporating exhaust fans we did not need), the Sharp was the only microwave I found with over the counter mounting and controls. The sensor cooking and reheat functions are easy to use and work very well. The automatic popcorn function leaves more "old maids" even on the "more cooking" setting, but popcorn popping is so fast that I just monitor it manually. Steaming vegetable and cooking rice is also quick and perfect. Reheating coffee and beverages is flawless. Door mounted controls are clear, intuitive, and lend a sleek and uncluttered look. Operation is fast and quiet. Built in task light illuminates what use to be the darkest corner of my kitchen quite adequately. Recommended.

Customer Reviews

Pleased I did not follow advise of other review, I love this5
I bought this on Amazon to replace a Sharp microwave, which has served me well for several years. Based on the price, compared to other with similar features, this unit is the least expensive. I was also impressed with the comprehensive directions for installation. I am closer to being Tim (the toolman) Taylor than a professional at home improvements, so I followed the instructions with precision. The results were outstanding. Not only does it look GREAT where my old stove hood used to be, it passed my "popcorn" test, of which, I am particular. No scotching, full bag, satisfying and an extra plus, while I am beaming over my accomplishment, the beep sounds indicating the popcorn was finished, the display read "Enjoy". Am I ever! I have in my "digital locker",courtesy of Amazon, my own .pdf manual. What a great investment in money for the microwave and the time for installation of the unit.

Solidly built, looks great, came with lightbulbs for range light INSTALLED! No cons, but could have used some help with installing, as the manual recommends 2 people install, but I did manage nicely by myself. I would suggest an additional set of hands for final insertion, once preparations are complete. I have only owned this for a day, but, I wanted to tell my tale to give others an incentive, if they are on the edge, to jump at this opprotunity to snazz up the kitchen in a big way and for little out of pocket.

Panasonic wants like $300 for a comparable unit. I am pleased to pay 1/2 as much and get a quality unit such as this. You can even get this for $25 off before January 31st, free shipping (this dude is HEAVY!) and no tax, do the math, it is a steal!

Good deal...works GREAT!4
This microwave was a replacement for a different brand. But for $169 (and I found an online coupon to boot) it was worth every cent spent. Granted, it doesn't have all the bells and whistles my old microwave had, but what do we generally use a microwave for...reheating, defrosting and popcorn...so why spend the extra cash?

Installation was not quite so easy as others indicated as I was replacing a different brand, which meant drilling new holes in cabinet, and installing a new bracket behind the microwave, but still, for the money saved, well worth the effort. It does not come with a charcoal filter so be prepared to buy one separately if you are going ventless (do it at the time of purchase if you can find it on Amazon so you can save the shipping cost).

The rating I gave is due to the lack of features...basic microwave with few "extras", but the price made it 4 stars!

Excellent value!5
Much better price then most of the name brand models (approx. $300). Probably better quality the the cheap generic ones (goldstar, ropper etc.)Mine arrived not working, so i called technical support to see if there was a fuse or something that i could try. I was on hold quite a while so i took off one of the panels and saw that where the power cord attached to the circuit board was unplugged. So i reached in with a these very long forceps that i had and plugged it back in and it worked great.

Misses......

The exhaust fan is VERY loud, with only one setting. Perhaps the other similar models are loud too, i can not say.

The timer and clock use the same button for setting (just in a different order) so it's really easy to accidentally set the clock. Ours never says the right time because of this.

VERY HEAVY! You definitely should get some help installing this. You also must have an upper cabinet or soffit to install too. Maybe all the others are heavy too, I don't know for sure.

My only other complaint is that it doesn't come with the filter for the exhaust fan so you can use it without a vent. They could surely throw one of those in to sweeten the deal.

Pluses.....

Very powerful.

Exhaust fan works great!

Very good cook top light.

Nice looking.

Timer feature is good to have. I use it a lot.

Definitely saves kitchen space.

Better buy then any other name brand model and not much more expensive then the cheapo brands.

It's a Sharp Looking Microwave4
We had the lower model of R-1520 and we really liked it. Because of an accident we had to replace it (I didn't do it. I wasn't even home). We have a certain look in our kitchen and we like a microwave that has the control panel hidden. (Most controls look cheap and flimsy.) Although this model is not the highest rated out there it still does everything we need it to do. All I can see that it's missing is a center rack so you can place two items inside at once. I installed it by myself and found the instructions to be easy to understand and the installation simple. It is a bit heavy so you may need some help lifting it. My doctor says I should regain full use of my legs when my back is out of traction. (Just kidding.) If you are looking for a good-looking, well built, easy to operate, nice featured, easy to install microwave I say this is a good choice.

"Sharp" looking4
This is a very stylish microwave. The buttons are on the inside panel and while I didn't think I would initially like this, it works great. Keeps all the fingerprints inside the microwave, so your microwave always looks clean. Also has a sensor to reheat food that works well.

Attractive space saver, though slow to toast4
In the aesthetics department this item is top notch for anyone going for a stainless steel look in their kitchen. Brushed steel on front, with a black glass window - black metal on sides. Surprisingly, this is more important that I would have thought.

It microwaves well, though at 650W. The controls are convienent, and fast - with a single "one minute" button to save time on reheats. Seems to cook very evenly.

A nice function is the ability to turn the sound off completely - ridding your home of one source of beeps and chirps.

The oven works well for cooking. The toaster works surprisingly well, but it takes close to 3 minutes for a slice of bread. In the toast department, I'd recommend a stand-alone drop-in style toaster.

You can combine cooking and microwaving in steps (thaw then cook, not both at once).

Know what you're buying5
Read these reviews carefully. The unhappy people are the people who bought this appliance without understanding what it is.

1) It's a small, low-power microwave. Small, low-powered microwaves don't do popcorn very well and some things just don't fit in there.

2) It's a large toaster oven, which means the elements are somewhat removed from the toast. If you want quick toast, get a toaster, where the elements are often less than an inch from the bread. But if you want to toast all sorts of lumpy things, including three or four slices of bread at a time, this'll do it. Typically, mine takes 4 1/2 minutes to toast regular bread.

3) It's a small oven. The oven works well, although again, it's small (see #1). Don't plan on cooking the Thanksgiving turkey in there.

If you understand these things, you'll like this appliance. I sure like mine. It's perfect for a bachelor!

Customer Reviews

Great performer, heats fast, excellent safety, but poor keypad4
This Sharp microwave oven, with 1 c.f. of total capacity and about 0.8 c.f. of usable capacity (according to Consumer Reports), is a great performer. It heats food quickly and for the most part evenly. The turntable turns automatically and alternates between clockwise and counterclosewise turns. There's a lightbulb inside that lights up when you open the door or when the microwave is operating. The heat output is rated at 1100W, which is usually the power assumed by most microwave heating instructions on food packages - a great convenience.

There was a story I read a few years ago that looked into microwave oven safety, and Sharp came out ahead. So I feel confidend that this microwave oven, assembled in Thailand, should also be one of the safest. Of course, you should keep at least 7 inches away from the oven when its magnetron is generating microwaves, just to be totally safe. One guy complained about the "loud" door; yes, but it's designed to be safe. I'd never trade safety for a flimsy, "easier" door.

The LCD display is always backlit (in green), which is really nice, esp. if you, like I, use the LCD as a clock and also as a timer. (Clock is am-pm-agnostic 12-hour type, while timer has a maximum countdown of 99:99.) The Minute Plus feature is extremely convenience. The keys beep when you press them, but the beep and that "cooking finished" long beep can be turned off easily. You can also invoke a "safe" mode so that the buttons don't work, kind of like a "hold" feature on audio players -- great for families with kids who like to fiddle with appliances.

My only complaint is, like all Asian electronics companies, Sharp pays little attention to the user-friendliness of the unit. The keys all look the same and are about the same size. While they are responsive, sometimes you need to hunt for the keys you want to press. The End and Start keys, in particular, should have been made to stand out. Also, unlike many other Sharp models, this one requires you to press the Power button multiple times instead of just pressing a numeric button to specify a power level. Finally, the reheat/cook button works ridiculously complicated. All these anti-user features detract a full star from an otherwise really excellent appliance.

The all-black finish looks great and the oven fits well under most kitchen cabinets. I do recommend this oven despite the ergonomic issues mentioned above. For me, Sharp microwave ovens' reliability reputation, safety record and Minute Plus convenience are reason enough to recommend them highly.

Excellent microwave4
I'm used to industrial microwaves(the ones used in resturants)& this one out performs those at allmost all tasks. The only place where it only matches their performance is with large frozen meals. I will definitly recomend this microwave

Great Oven5
I purchased this oven to replace one that I had for about 5 years. The LED panel went on it. I saw this oven and liked the size and power but most of all needed it to fit a particular sized footprint. It arrived and fit perfectly and the power is just great. The "only" thing I don't like and it's very minor is that the door shuts with a loud bang. Other than that it works like a charm with the many settings. Perfect for warming up coffee or syrup. I love it and would recommend for the money.

My 3rd Sharp microwave oven5
This is my 3rd Sharp Carousel microwave oven. The first one was a combination microwave/convection oven. After about 10 years, the knobs broke and I used that as an excuse to buy a replacement (the original still works). The replacement I bought next was a digital model in most respects similar to this one. Again, it lasted about 10 years before developing some rust spots along the chamber seams. Again, although it still works, I saw this as a potential fire hazard and replaced it with one as similar as I could. buy.

At 1.4 cu.ft., it's big enough for just about any use we (family of 6) have for it. With 1100 watts on tap, it cooks very quickly so I usually have to adjust cooking times down from what's recommended. No matter, though, Sharp's Sensor Reheat works extremely well on leftovers or just heating canned goods. It does all the usual things, like popping popcorn, effortlessly.

The only thing that's changed significantly since I bought my last one a decade ago is that the price has gone down! I really love this microwave and wouldn't consider buying anything other than a Sharp Carousel in the future.

like it alot5
cant beat the price and free shiping- this is really a nice microwave. All kinds of settings-sensor cooking feature is super-turn table is great.
I am glad i ordered it.

This could be your only oven.5
Wow, after reading the other reviews I had to throw my 2 cents in. It's big all right but that's the only point I have in agreement with the other reviewers.

I've had the R-930CS for almost a year. It really lives up to what Sharp says it does. It bakes, broils and microwaves -- all well! I use it to cook meat and it's done a great job on steaks, fresh sausage and chicken.

It also has a nifty feature called Sensor Cook, which is intelligent microwaving. It works for a number of foods including vegetables, frozen entrees and hot dogs. I use it for hot dogs, actually frozen hot dogs. I had no idea how long to cook a frozen hot dog. Not a problem. Slap a couple on a plate, hit Sensor Cook - Hot Dog and the oven does the rest. They come out perfect.

Would I get this oven if I just needed a microwave? Of course not. ( I'm not even sure what you use a 1.5 cubic foot microwave for.) But if you need a microwave and a regular oven all in a countertop package, the R-930CS is great.

The cleanup of this oven is easy too. None of the horror stories from the early generation microwave convection combos. This one is stainless steel on the inside. No protruding parts. It (so far) cleans up with a damp paper towels or sometimes with a bit of dishwashing liquid.

Great for cakes!5
I was hesitant to purchase this unit after seeing the less than stellar reviews posted here, but I decided to give it a try anyway. So far, it does everything that it is advertised as being able to do. I made a devil's food bundt cake and it came out bakery moist, not dried out as I usually get from my regular electric oven. The control panel is intuitive and it has many useful features. The unit is larger and heavier than I expected, but it does have a fairly impressive interior volume. I like the high and low interior racks which allows you to bake two 9" cakes pans simultaneously. I checked the interior temperature of the oven with a professional grade oven thermometer, and it was within a few degrees of the stated temperature. Overall, this seems like a versatile and useful appliance. I hope that reliability is not an issue. I'll keep my fingers crossed!

So far so good, we love it5
This was the best and largest unit we could use in the available space. I wanted a convection microwave regardless of cost or features. This unit seemed perfect on paper and although several reviewers were not complimentary I must say this is the best microwave we have ever owned. The unit arived on time, well packed and was easy to handle since I am 6'-2" and have no trouble with heavy stuff. It should be a two man job if you have the help. The unit is very easy to clean, heats, cooks, and does the wifes popcorn perfectly. She even tried some new recipes and they turned out great.
I would reccomend this unit and have had nothing but good comments on it so far.

Update: February 2, 2008
So far everything is working great, no issues to report. The only minor problem was that the door open switch would not consistently release the door fully, a little WD-40 sprayed into the latch mechanism and it is working fine now.

Great microwave!!5
You can't buy a better microwave than a Sharp. That's why I came to Amazon when I couldn't find what I wanted locally. My previous Sharp microwave had been great but needed replacing due to advanced age. This one is even better, more shortcut buttons, more power. A regular sized bag of popcorn pops in 1:25!!!!! As far as I'm concerned, Sharp wrote the book on microwaves!

Great Microwave5
This was my first time shopping on line for a microwave, I was a little scared but everything turned out great. Delivery was great and the product itself.......great.
I especially like the defrost, I work and there are times I forget to remove what I need from the freezer. The defost on this microwave does the job perfect. I would recommend this product to everyone....
Very Satisfied Customer.......

Works great, excellent value5
I purchased this microwave to replace an Amana I had for 21 years (really!). The Amana worked fine, but the interior bottom had cracked. I am so glad I entered the 21st century with this Sharp. The presets are convenient, and the rotating plate cooks evenly. It is a more powerful oven than my old one, and many things cook faster. Overall, I am completely satisfied, especially for the Amazon price.

Eleven power levels offer added control, with temperature settings that include 100, 150, and 275 to 450 degrees F in 25-degree increments. Custom Help provides programming features such as language/weight, child lock, and auto start. A uniquely useful, if not perfect, oven5
Given the tremendous functionality, and especially for the price, I cannot in good conscience give this oven less than 5 full stars. However, that is definitely not to imply that it is perfect. Nothing is, and this is no exception. So, while others here have done a fine job of highlighting the positive aspects (which is in fact why I bought one, too), I will try to provide a more balanced perspective. First, though, a quick re-cap of those highlights. Yes, this oven really does do the job of three: a conventional microwave, a convection unit, and a toaster oven. In fact, that does not do it justice because it does even more than that. You cannot, for example, grill a burger in any of those types, but you can in this. Especially for a small kitchen, this is phenomenally useful. In just a couple of weeks, I've already become reliant on its non-microwave functions for a variety of things, from roast chicken to frozen French fries, both of which come out better than in my conventional oven and in much less than half the time. And cleanup has not been an issue.

Still, there are flaws. Others have noted the wobbly turntable and difficult to read LCD display, and this is true - but I think there are more serious ones. I'll start with build quality since that was the first one I encountered. I've unfortunately had a chance to explore this in-depth, thanks to a broken fan assembly in mine. This was not shipping damage, either, but a manufacturing defect. In checking out the problem, I was able to examine things on the inside, it was clear that the unit is built to a very tight price point. There is an abundance of crimped sheet metal, a minimum number of screws, and cheap plastic snap-ins securing (barely) too many of the vital components. I'll also note that Consumer Reports has been reporting failure rates for Sharp built-in microwaves (the only variety they track reliability in) many times that of the other brands. That said, this unit replaced a Sharp countertop microwave which was still going strong at 13 years. Another weak point - this time of the design - is the ratio of exterior to interior space. In other words, the cavity is quite small for the amount of space the oven takes up, even compared to other convection units. In fact, my counter can just barely accommodate its depth. This is likely partially the result of its `economical' design. Also related to that, no doubt, is the omission of a doneness sensor, which I would expect on any microwave at this price, convection or not. This sensor is what allows a microwave to automatically reheat dishes, and shut off when it detects, through the amount of steam given off, that a dish is done heating. Instead, we are given reheat presets, which are never adequate (unless maybe you weigh your food first and configure it just right on the plate).

However, not all the preset programs are useless. In fact, much to my surprise, some are invaluable. I expected that all the co-called `Compu-` settings were simple time presets, but this is not the case. Many of these are fairly complex cooking routines, sometimes involving all three methods in various sequences. For example, the Compu-Roast 1 program will cook a darn good roast chicken automatically, using microwave, convection, and even the upper grill for browning near the end. The hamburger Compu-Grill program works similarly well, though I believe with just the 2 grills. (It is not always possible to tell what cooking mode is being used). These programs make it simple for even a mediocre cook like myself to begin using the oven instantly and with good results. And it prevents it from becoming merely an overpriced microwave (like my mother's KitchenAid has: it has convection and an upper grill, too, but no programs, so they remain unused after 2 years). Nonetheless, the presence of such helpful programs does not preclude it having a doneness sensor which is virtually a standard feature these days. Ideally, it would also have a linear power supply like the Panasonics do, allowing truly low-power microwaving, rather than simply cycling full power on and off to simulate low power operation. But not many other manufacturers do this, and that may be expecting too much. Finally, beware that this oven will draw more current than a comparably-sized microwave-only unit: up to 13 amps. This can tax a typical 15 amp household circuit if anything else is plugged in. Add a toaster, for example, and you will trip a breaker (I have).

To summarize, while the build quality is a concern, very few ovens I am aware of offer as much functionality to bake, roast, microwave and grill - and fewer still offer preset programs making all that flexibility readily accessible. None do it for so low a price. In fact, of the few other countertop convection microwaves I could find, nearly all were over three hundred dollars actual selling price. That makes this unique oven a bargain in several ways.

Great microwave-toaster-griller-small oven!5
After reading extensive reviews here and elsewhere, I bit the bullet and ponied up for the expensive little thing, and must agree with the reviewer who said Sharp clearly doesn't know what a great thing they have here, or else they have the worst marketing plan in history. This is a TERRIFIC appliance! It has replaced my old toaster oven and microwave. How much room would that save in YOUR kitchen?
There is more functionality than I normally use, so I'll stick to the things I use it for.
1. First, it does boil water as fast as any other high-powered microwave. The reviewer who wrote otherwise clearly had a defective unit. It's a flawless microwave with flat, easy to clean surfaces, even heating, and a silent turntable. It took me a while to get my head around microwaving with a metal turntable, but it works. I have not had the courage yet to microwave with the 'small, flat' pieces of aluminum foil the manual says you may cover dishes with, but I will try it since everything else they've claimed it does, it does.
2. It does make perfectly fine toast, but I have noticed the length of time varies. A bagel will toast in the same time as my old toaster, about 4 minutes, but sliced bread does take longer, about 7 minutes. To me this isn't a drawback, just worth noting.
3. The grill feature is excellent, heating up small batches of crispy or fried things much faster than my big oven or old toaster oven could. This function is flawless.
4. The convection feature heats casseroles or bakes chicken in exactly half the time of any conventional oven, as it should. The exhaust above the top of the unit (from the fan) can be warm, although the unit remains touchable. I don't see a hazard here, but I would abide their recommended clearances on top, and not store things that would suffer from heat(I have moved my bananas).
5. Compu-serve setting are usful, but you need to read the manual if you intend to use metal cookware, as some setting incorporate microwave cooking for part of the cycle. I use only pyrex, and never think about it.
In conclusion, buy with optimism, read the manual (really) and if you don't think it's performing well, return it for another one because it really works wonders! This is a fantstic tool.

Just About the Perfect Appliance5
I can't add much to what the first reviewer said, except to say you should get one right now! I hardly use any other appliances for cooking anymore. I was a little worried that it would turn out to do everything, but nothing well, but it actually does everything well. You can roast, bake, grill, or microwave, and I have no complaints on any account. It makes the best roast chicken ever, in much less time than it would take to do it in your oven, and really excels with baked goods as well. This is just a terrific appliance, and while the price seems a little high, it is a great value for all that it does. All of this, and it takes up about a third less space than the microwave it replaced. There should be a fan club!

Fabulous microwave5
I don't know what happened with the 1-star person's microwave, but we got this microwave 2 years ago as a wedding present and have been very happy with it. My husband was a little confused by the settings at first, but I wasn't confused by anything. Maybe I'm just warped enough to understand 'complicated' appliances.

The special cook/defrost/reheat settings all work well. We use this microwave to soften butter (40% for about 20 seconds), defrost chicken, and reheat leftovers. It takes a little bit of getting used to, but once you understand how the settings work it's really, really easy to cook things and use the special settings. We've never used any of the "shortcut" buttons, nor have we ever cooked popcorn in the microwave.

Timer: Enter time, hit "timer/clock"

Clock: Hit "timer/clock", enter time, hit "timer/clock again"

Add a minute: Hit "minute plus" and it will either add a minute or start cooking for a minute on 100% power.

Adjusting the power level: after you enter in the cooking time, hit the "power level" button. It starts at 100 and counts down by 10s.

Cook something: Select "cook", press number that corresponds with option, press that number again for qty or whatever.
Defrost: Select "defrost", press number that corresponds with option, enter weight.
Reheat: Select "reheat", press number that corresponds with option, press that number again for qty or whatever.

If you're not sure what you're supposed to be measuring (cups, lbs, qty) a little black bar shows up on the right side of the screen that tells you what information you're supposed to be providing.

The one thing I did not like about the microwave is you can't adjust the power settings while the microwave is running. You have to cancel it and restart it (unless there's some kind of special setting I don't know about. I never read the manual.) I just pulled out my operation manual and it specifically lists out how to do all of the automatic features if you don't want to do everything manually. If the 1-star reviewer had read the manual, they might not be so confused about the microwave's special settings.

This microwave seems to have always done everything right when I know how to use the features. Like I said, we've had this microwave for 2 years and have been very happy with it.

Very Good Microwave!4
We've had this unit for several months now, and I see why people talk about the user friendliness of Sharp Microwaves. Everything is easy and obvious except lowering the power setting. That stumped me until I broke out the manual. Now I like the way that works, too.

The unit has more power than we need and a surprising amount of room inside. My only critique is that the display is black lettering on white background with no backlight. It is hard to read, sometimes.

Great product5
We reciever this microwave quickly. My microwave died after 35 yrs. and I was so happy it arrived fast. It is easy to operate and the instructions are very easy to follow. I really like all the features and the pre-set settings are very accurate. The 4 defrost settings are a real treat to me. The demenions are accurate but I didn't realize the wall plug was large so this microwave sticks out 2 inches more in front beyond my shelf edge. My old microwave's plug laid flat against the wall. I am getting use to this and it in no way affects the performance of the product. If I had known it would take up another 2 inches in deepth beyond the listed deminsions I would have purchased a smaller unit so it would fit my space better.

Love all but one thing4
I really researched before I bought this microwave. I had owned a Sharp, one of the first carousel type ones, for 21 years, and it still hadn't died, but was slowing down. I knew I wanted another Sharp and had space constraints, so after doing quite a bit of looking, I chose this one. And I am definitely not sorry! I was a bit daunted at first by all the buttons and choices, but the prompts are a huge help, and it really wasn't hard to figure out at all, especially considering my old one had barely any options. The only thing I would change - Sharp, are you listening? is that the door is very loud when you shut it. There are light sleepers in my house, so I find that sometimes, early in the a.m., I have to leave the door hanging open until they wake up! That's the only reason I gave this item a 4 instead of a 5. Performance-wise, feature-wise, you can't go wrong with this microwave.

Awesomely powerful and durable microwave5
This product replaced our still working but rusted 1991 Sharp microwave. That microwave and this one are made great. I slam the door in my haste and it takes it and asks for more. I had to get used to how much more powerful this one was than our last. Cooking times have decreased dramatically which is nice. Controls are easy to use. There is a button that you can press quickly cook (one-touch) in increments of one minute. I use this frequently. Highly recommended. I can't see how you could go wrong with this one.
